Ushers needed for Helltown Buffet


RGTC needs ushers for our upcoming mainstage show Helltown Buffet, which I wrote and directed. This dark comedy propels a naive buffet manager and his hunky demon seducer from Orange County to several afterlives, prompting encounters with a host of fantastic characters and unreal situations.

For those of you who are new, ushering is very easy and you get to watch the show. All you do is take surveys, do some light cleanup, and make an announcement or two. If you are interested in ushering, email me right away using the email address on the upper left. These positions go quickly, so hurry.

Call times are 6:30pm on Fridays and Saturdays, and 1pm for the Sunday matinee.

Looking for board ops for Nocturne our Second Stage show

We're looking for board operators for our Second Stage show Nocturne at Rude Guerrilla. Among other people, the show is staffed by two Orange County Theater Award winners: Jay Fraley, as director, and Scott Barber, as actor. This is a great chance for you to see how two theater pros put on a show.

If you've always wanted to try board ups but didn't want to commit to a long run, this is the perfect opportunity. (The position is quite easy -- you're basically pushing buttons or clicking them on a computer.) The show only runs Saturdays @ 4:30pm and Sundays @ 7 pm from August 2nd to August 31st. That's roughly half of our regular mainstage runs.

Rehearsals are July 26 (during the day) and the evenings of July 29, 30, 31, August 2 and 3.

Ushers Needed for "New Brain" and "Orange Flower Water"


We need ushers for our June shows:
  • New Brain (NB) is a hilarious new musical.

  • Orange Flower Water (OFW) is a drama by Craig Wright.
Note that the Saturday and Sunday shifts are TWO-show shifts (OFW & NB) with a short break in-between. The Saturday shift gets out at around 10:30-11pm pm while the Sunday shift gets out at around 9:30-10pm. On the plus side, you get to see two entirely different shows.

The Friday shifts are the standard one-show shift (NB only).

If you volunteer for Saturday and Sunday, we'd prefer that you do both shows. But if you can only do one show, let me know and we'll see what can be worked out.

Tech People Needed for "Orange Flower Water"

Our 2nd stage production of "Orange Flower Water" by Craig Wright needs people to run sound and lights. This is perfect for those of you who want to be involved backstage but don't like the late nights because the show runs on Saturdays at 4pm and Sundays at 7pm from June 7 (Sat) to July 6 (Sun). The show runs an hour and thirty minutes.

Though experience is helpful, we will train the right person. It is a surprisingly easy job and you get to observe the nuances of a show from behind-the-scenes.

Tech people need to attend the following rehearsals as well:

  • June 31 (Sat) 10am-2pm, for a run through of the show,

  • July 1 (Sun) 10am-? for tech dress, and

  • July 2 (Mon) - July 4 (Wed) for final dress and tech.

If you can make some days but not others, let us know because there may be flexibility in scheduling.

The following ushering shifts are now open for "strangers, babies. " For those of you who haven't done this, the shifts last from 6:30pm to around 11ish or later, as you open and close the theater. You're mostly taking surveys of the audience and doing a little cleanup. And you get to watch the show.

Two Board Operators Wanted for "Strangers, Babies"

We need two people to run our light and sound board for RGTC's upcoming show, strangers, babies. Tech begins on Saturday, April 5th around noon.

Rehearsals are every day the next week from 6pm until 10 or 11pm (hopefully 10pm) and we open Friday night, April 11th at 8pm with a preview on Thursday the 10th. Opening night is followed by a gala evening with champagne, hors d'oeuvres, and usually a fun time at Bistro 400.

Shows are Thursday, Fri, Sat nights at 8pm for 6 weeks (until May 17th) and we have one Sunday matinée on May 11th. If you're interested, please respond to the email on the left.

ARTWALK Volunteers Needed for April 5

We're looking for a volunteer or two to help distribute postcards/flyers to passersby during Artwalk Saturday on April 5.

If you're unfamiliar with Artwalk, it's a fun evening where all the galleries stay open late and there's usually lots of entertainment. Many galleries also serve free wine, cheese, appetizers, and other refreshments.

Your shift would be from about 7:30pm - 8:30pm, or until you run out of postcards. You would just wander around, talk to folks about the theater and the shows, and give them a postcard. It usually goes very quickly because you're interacting with lots of people in a fun environment.

You'll be headed up by Kristin Elliott, company member.

ARMS AND THE MAN opens Feb. 23!

Rude Guerrilla presents the classic ARMS AND THE MAN February 23!

Rude Guerrilla Theater Company is pleased to announce GB Shaw's classic ARMS AND THE MAN as the third production in its eleventh season. Written in 1894, this romantic comedy centers on a young woman engaged to a war hero she idolizes. When an enemy soldier bursts through her bedroom window and demands she protect him, the young woman soon finds herself falling in love with him. Complications arise when the war ends and her hero comes home.

Directed by Rude Guerrilla Company Member Sally Norton, the production opens Saturday February 23, 2008 and runs thru March 29, 2008, for 19 performances at 202 N. Broadway, in Santa Ana. Show times are Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights at 8:00 pm. There are two half-price previews Thursday and Friday, February 21 and 22 at 8:00 p.m. and one Sunday matinee performance at 2:30 p.m March 9.

$25 Opening Night Gala February 23 tickets include champagne and hors d'oeuvres courtesy of Bistro 400. For all other performances, tickets are $20 general admission, $15 for seniors and a measly $10 for students with an ID.

George Bernard Shaw was born in 1856. He briefly attended the Wesleyan Connexional School and ended his formal education at the Dublin English Scientific and Commercial Day School. Shaw was almost sixteen years old when his mother left home and followed her voice teacher, George Vandeleur Lee, to London. His sisters accompanied their mother, but Shaw remained in Dublin with his father, first as a reluctant pupil, then as a clerk in an estate office, where he worked efficiently, albeit discontentedly, for several years. In 1876, Shaw joined his mother's London household. She, Vandeleur Lee, and his sister Lucy, provided him with a pound a week while he frequented public libraries and the British Museum reading room where he studied earnestly and started writing novels. He earned his allowance by ghost-writing Vandeleur Lee's music column, which appeared in the London Hornet but his novels were rejected, so his literary earnings remained negligible until 1885, when he became self-supporting as a critic of the arts.

Shaw's plays were first performed in the 1890s and, by the end of the decade he was an established playwright. He wrote sixty-three plays and his output as novelist, critic, pamphleteer, essayist and private correspondent was prodigious. He is known to have written more than 250,000 letters. He became a dedicated Socialist and a charter member of the Fabian Society, a middle class organization established in 1884 to promote the gradual spread of socialism by peaceful means. In the course of his political activities he met Charlotte Payne-Townshend, an Irish heiress and fellow Fabian; they married in 1898.

In 1906 the Shaws moved into a house, now called Shaw's Corner, in Ayot St Lawrence, a small village in Hertfordshire; it was to be their home for the remainder of their lives, although they also maintained a residence in London. During his final years Shaw enjoyed attending to the grounds at Shaw's Corner; his death, at 94, from renal failure was precipitated by injuries incurred by falling from a ladder he climbed to prune a tree. "Rude Guerrilla has produced classics by Shakespeare, Gorky, Williams, and Beckett, but until now, never Shaw!" says director Norton. "I've long wanted our audiences to share the joy of his wit and language, so full of ideas and food for thought. Though the title comes from Virgil's Aeneid, and the play was first performed over 100 years ago, Arms and the Man seems as relevant as ever. Shaw's thoughts on the folly of war are well known and at a time when poverty in this country has separated the classes more and more, what could be more timely than Arms and the Man, a play in which a servant girl challenges an aristocrat at romance?

A Shaw play in our small space will prove that his high style comedies can be intimate as well, that his stage realism can be effectively done in our economical way. I have long loved his plays
for the challenge, the humor, and seriousness beneath the comedy. I think our audiences--new to Shaw or not--will really enjoy this one."

The cast of seven includes RGTC members Jennifer Bridge (last seen in THE BALANCING ACT) and Sharyn Case (last seen in WOMEN BEHIND BARS). Returning to the RGTC stage are Sean Cox (last seen in ART) and Rick Kopps (last seen in BEIRUT). Making their RGTC debut are John Byrd, Tanya Raisa Mironowski and Bart Shattuck.

We need a sound or board op for Arms and the Man.

We begin tech Saturday night, Feb. 16, running through the week until the official open on Feb. 23. Shows are 8:00 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays thru March 29, with one Sunday matinee at 2:30 on March 9.

The production will probably run about 2 hours.

Job may be shared by a couple of people, so let us know if you can only do some of the time--we'll be happy to take advantage of you!

There is also a small stipend and if you've wanted to get a foot in the door at RG, a great way for us to get to know you!
